ALL-AGES HARD-CORE SHOW SCHEDULED FOR THE BIG DIPPER
FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 2001
On the bill is Neither Be Afraid, a new venture for four "experienced
veterans" (although all are only 20 or 21 years old) of the Spokane music
scene, who, between them, have played in many other bands. The new band,
described by member Tyler Warnock (230-5558) as "breakdown hard-core," was
formed just five months ago. However, they have been able to put together a
four song EP, which will be available at the show at a price of $5. They
have added a new guitar player, and fifth member, Christian Hendricks,
formerly with Not Long After and Buddy Ruckus.
Few and Far Between brings its energetic, watch-out-in-the-front-of-the-crowd
brand of hard-core back to the Dipper. This band has been playing a number of
gigs all over town in recent months. Band member Steve Westcott (280-0247)
says that they have finished recording their first full length CD, scheduled
to be released in May. Like Neither Be Afraid and three other Spokane bands,
Few and Far Between has been selected to play at Tomfest, a four day annual
hard music festival in Stevenson, Washington, featuring over 100 bands from
around the US and Canada.
The opening band is Broken Paradox, from the Colville area.
This seven piece
"operatic goth metalcore" band was rewarded with a third place finish at
Bobfest 2000. They formed in the winter of 1998, and have had a chance to
play a number of shows, including in Grants Pass, Oregon and Mt. Vernon,
Washington. The band features two female, and one male, vocalists. Brother
and sister KC and Jessie Musmecci (509-684-4342) say that the band draws from
classical influences to create its progressive metal and gothic sound.
Mainstream influences include Metallica, Korn, and Kitty. The band has
released a 10 track CD entitled "The Human Condition." This CD has received
a lot of positive comment for its variety, intensity, and unique approach.
